Sophie Holmes is the current Director of the Williams Road Family Therapy Centre. The Centre was founded by Moshe Lang in 1979 as the first private centre of its kind in Australia. The primary aim of the Centre is to work as a multi-disciplinary team of mental health practitioners such as psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, etc. who function on a variety of levels.

  • Providing a range of therapeutic services to the larger community encompassing a wide range of philosophies for individuals, couples, families, schools, agencies and corporate bodies.

  • A central feature of the centre has been conducting a training program for those who wish to become skilled as Family Therapists. We offer the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma of Social Science (Family Therapy) in association with Swinburne University of Technology. Other short courses in family therapy are also offered (for further information please see TRAINING).

  • Providing supervision on a group or individual basis and promoting quality of practice for both current students and those psychologists, psychiatrists, medical practitioners and social workers who wish to maintain excellence of clinical practice.

  • Providing a community where thinking, writing, and research can take place. Since its establishment in 1979, the Centre has become a very significant influence in the development of family therapy in Australia.

The Centre continues to be open to new directions and new thinking and offers an opportunity for visiting experts to collaborate with both staff and students in developing research, thinking, and excellence of clinical practice. The staff maintains a close association with most Victorian Universities with recent therapeutic thinking through overseas visits and sabbaticals.
